What I would want in a friend. This is an ideal list. I would fall far short myself. Don’t blame me if I am attracted to the positive. Don’t say to me, “Well you are not so hot your self”.
1. Good looks or at least be interesting looking or have an expressive face.
2. They should be local. You want to be able to meet the person face to face and hang out.
3. They should not be broke. They should have enough money to be able to do normal things.
4. They should not be neurotic or psychotic. They should be reasonably free from mental and physical pain.
5. They should be a US citizen so immigration and green card issues are not pressing.
6. They should be single or at least have time for doing things. They should not be pressed with family or career obligations that prevent them from doing other things. Maybe it is good if they are retired early.
7. They should have no criminal record, no criminal mind, and no credit card problems. They should have never filed for bankruptcy.
8. No ethnic issues. They should be proud of their heritage.
9. They should have a spiritual component in personality.
10. No identity crisis.
11. No sexual confusion.
12. No codependency.
13. Not have Asperger’s type personality.
14. Have a high IQ but not hung up on the intellect.
15. Have a free flowing emotion life.
16. Not be overwhelmed with guilt or hate or other strong negative emotions
17. Have good ethical sensitivities.
18. Not be a religious fanatic.
19. Not marked with the stamp of a lower socio-economic upbringing.
20. Have good character traits.
21. Not be weird.
22. Aggressive but not too aggressive.
23. Have children, love kids. Came from a large family. Loved his/her parents.
24. Not an alcoholic not addicted to anything.
25. Not an irresponsible party animal.
26. Not a mafia type, not a gangster type.
27. Not an adversarial type of person. Has not been traumatized by racism or poverty.
28. Be someone who wants to pay own way. Does not feel entitled.
29. Wants to pay their share of gas, food, and lodging.
30. Has integrity.
31. Has goals.
32. Likes to study and read.
33. Does not have tons of pabulum opinions.
34. Want to have evidence or reasons for beliefs.
35. Not a cult member.
36. Has appreciation of art and music.
37. Some appreciation of science.
38. Some knowledge of philosophy and history.
39. Studies self help books. Wants to improve.
40. Has ideals .
41. Not be sick. Not be old and frail. Not be fat. Not be homeless
42. Must speak in a clear intelligent way. Not mumble. Have good timing and phrasing.
43. Have interest in lifelong learning.
44. Not be a crisis waiting to happen. Not be accident prone.
45. Be considerate to others.
46. Be open to new experiences enough (The five factor personality scale) .
47. Be conscientious enough.
48. Be agreeable enough.
49. Be extrovert enough.
50. Be Low in neuroticism .
51. Read the NYT sometimes. Know some of the journalists and opinion writers.
52. know something about the news, current events music dance, pop culture.
53. Have some computer skills.
54. Have the skills required of a voter in a democracy.
55. Does not have hateful political opinions.
56. Is not spiteful.
57. Is good with conversational skills.
58. Is not too shy.
59. Be out going to some extent.
60. Have some empathy for others.
61. Have a good singing voice.
62. Be clean.
63. Not be lazy.
64. Be honest.
65. Not be dogmatic.
66. Has a give and take attitude.
67. Has had good long term friends. Is not a loner.
68. Must have people who say they are wonderful people
69. Must not always avoid issues
70. Must be patient and be a good listener
71. Must be appreciation of culture
72. Must not be defensive.
73. Must not be secretive.
74. Must not be condescending.
75. Must not have a secret life or other identity.
76. Must have a good sense of humor.
77. Must be a good writer or have some writing skills. Must want to communicate
